Comparison of Strengthening Solutions with Optimized Passive Energy Dissipation Systems in Symmetric Buildings

The aim of this study is to compare the seismic response reinforced concrete (RC) symmetric buildings, with a varied number stories, strengthening three types passive energy dissipation systems, as tuned mass dampers, viscous and friction dampers. paper presents an overview design optimization object minimizing certain functions: (i) maximum displacement at top structures, (ii) base shear loads, (iii) interstory drift. objective functions were evaluated in residents’ buildings (a four-story building, nine-story sixteen-story building) subjected seven (real artificial) recorded accelerograms. For purpose, 94 nonlinear dynamic analyses carried out. effects each solution are presented, from innovative comparison (optimal design, different story numbers), further useful results observed. outcomes show effectiveness damper (TMD) system, how it might be better for tall flexible structures than stiffer structures. However, pendulum configuration conventional one because acts all directions. dampers (VDs) provide significant reduction mid-rise while (FDs) boost performance under action, especially terms displacement, they more suitable low-rise buildings.
